Thank you to all who made our first-ever trip to compete in the National Cheerleading Association 2013 Nationals possible! This is the first time in history that MIT has been represented at NCA Nationals, and our squad had an incredible experience competing and meeting squads from all over the country! Here’s a picture of us with our Challenger Cup Trophy after we competed! GO TECH!!!
After a week of a very competitive voting, MIT Cheer and the UA would like to congratulate this year’s Mr., Ms. and Professor School Spirit!
Mr. School Spirit: Chris Lang ’15
Ms. School Spirit: Michelle Morales ’13
Professor of School Spirit: Professor Eric Lander
Thank you to everyone who voted! We will continue to spread school spirit at this year’s NCA Nationals in Daytona, FL this April. Sad you didn’t see your name up there? Stay tuned! You’ll have your chance next year!
Do you think MIT is the best place on earth? Are you an ISawYou celebrity with something to prove? Do your friends excuse themselves from dinner when you talk about just how much you love MIT? Are you the lone fan screaming at MIT games? Do you cheer as loud as you can at Ring Premiere (with or without the alcohol)? Late at night, do you fantasize about Tim the Beaver?
Oh–not you, but your “friend” fits these qualifications? Then nominate them for the Mr. and Ms. School Spirit Competition hosted by the MIT Cheerleading Squad! Let your peers decide in the Institute’s first School Spirit Competition. Let your money do the talking, and vote all week in Lobby 10, or Thursday at the Student Center.
1. You can donate any dollar amount to cast your vote
2. Throwing coins in a candidates bucket will count as a deduction against them
3. At the end of the week, we will announce a Mr., Ms., and Professor School SpiritThank you for your support! All donations will go towards MIT Cheerleading Squad’s 1st-ever Trip to NCA Nationals.
Last Sunday, March 3rd, the MIT Cheer Squad had the pleasure of participating in a 3-hour Gymnastics Workshop led by Abbie Green, Head Instructor & Executive Director of Cambridge Community Gymnastics (CCG), and two of her fellow staff members.
Abbie and her staff worked with our squad in learning basic warmups, exercises, and drills that focus on improving the tumbling in our 2013 NCA Nationals routine. As our squad contains members with all different backgrounds, the level of professionalism and experience Abbie and her staff have was very helpful in enabling our team to improve its technique in such a small amount of time.
The MIT Cheerleading Squad would like to send a special thank you to Abbie and Cambridge Community Gymnastics for volunteering to hold this workshop in support of our organization’s endeavors to compete at Nationals for the first time ever. If you or a friend is interested in learning more about CCG and its programs, you can contact them by email here or visit their website at: https://sites.google.com/site/cambridgecommunitygymnastics/

“The Science Cheerleaders are professional cheerleaders pursuing science careers who playfully challenge stereotypes, turn everyone onto science by encouraging participation in citizen science activities, and inspire young women (including 3-4 million U.S. cheerleaders) to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and math. We do this by recasting the image of scientists and engineers while giving people the opportunity to explore their personal interests as a gateway to science. We communicate in ways that inspire people using our very real, very personal stories. We do this at schools, festivals, malls, on tv, online, at cheer events, games, bars…wherever the people are! The point: science is accessible to ALL!”
